Our Approach to Sustainability

At Solarport, sustainability shapes how we work, from the engineering decisions we make to the suppliers we choose and the way we manufacture.

 

We follow the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) framework because it gives us a consistent way to assess our impact across everything we do. It not only shapes our approach to responsible sourcing, low-impact manufacturing, and delivering mounting systems that perform reliably over the long term but also how we treat our workforce and the people in our supply chain, and how we run our business with transparency and accountability.

Sustainable Buildings

Our buildings and facilities are part of how we put our environmental commitments into practice. From how we heat our offices to how we power our factories; we’ve made a series of practical investments to reduce our operational footprint.

  • EV Charging Points: Solarport head office is equipped with EV charging points, supporting our team in choosing lower-carbon ways to travel.
  • Ground Source Heat Pump: Our head office runs on a ground-source heat pump, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and supporting more efficient energy use.
  • Waste Management: We’ve introduced enhanced waste management practices across our offices and factories to reduce operational waste and minimise our environmental impact.
  • Solar Panels: Solar panels at our head office, innovation hub and factory generate renewable energy on-site, reducing the electricity we draw from the grid.

Supply Chain

At Solarport, responsible sourcing guides our operations. We ensure the materials, components, and services used in our solar mounting solutions respect people, protect the environment, and support ethical business practices.

 

Suppliers are expected to meet the same standards of integrity, transparency, and sustainability that guide our own operations. Through our procurement processes, we assess partners for alignment with these values and encourage continuous improvement across the supply chain.

 

We also use recognised sustainability assessment frameworks and industry standards to monitor supplier performance and support responsible manufacturing practices.

Our People

Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and their commitment drives a strong, inclusive culture. To support this, we’ve established internal committees that bring colleagues together, encourage collaboration, and ensure every voice is heard.

  • ESG Committee: Turning strategy into practical action, our ESG committee helps embed sustainability into everyday operations across the business.
  • Charity Committee: Through our charity committee, we expand charitable initiatives and strengthen relationships within the communities we serve.
  • DEI Committee: Work led by the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee helps create a workplace where everyone can thrive by strengthening policies and removing barriers.
  • Women’s Forum: Our dedicated Women’s Forum connects our female colleagues across the business through regular discussions, mentorship and peer support.
  • Social Committee: The Solarport Social Committee supports a positive workplace culture by organising activities that bring colleagues together and strengthen team connection across the business.

For Communities

At Solarport, giving back to the communities around us isn’t an afterthought, it’s something we actively invest in, through our people, our products, and our partnerships.

  • West Dorset Wilding: We are proud to be a corporate partner of West Dorset Wilding, supporting their work to restore and rewild natural habitats across the region.
  • Volunteering: We support our employees in giving back to communities by offering paid Volunteer Time Off each year, enabling our team to contribute to causes that make a positive difference.
  • Donated Mounting Systems: We’ve donated Solarport mounting systems to Moulton College and Green Tadley Community Allotment, supporting renewable energy initiatives beyond our own operations.
  • Local Fundraising for RNLI: Each year, our team takes part in the RNLI Raft Race in Bridport, raising funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
  • Christmas Toy Appeal: Christmas 2025, we donated gifts for children and families in the local area as part of the Dorset Echo Christmas Toy Appeal.

Good governance isn’t just about having the right policies in place, it’s about making sure they’re lived, audited, and continuously improved. At Solarport, we hold ourselves to rigorous standards of transparency, compliance, and accountability across everything we do.

  • Our Policies: We have a comprehensive suite of policies in place to ensure our business operates with integrity. These include our Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy, Equal Opportunities Policy, Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption Policy, Sustainable Shipping Policy, and Supplier Code of Conduct.
  • ISO Accreditations: Our operations are certified under ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 internationally recognised standards covering quality management, environmental responsibility, and workplace safety.
  • BSI: As members of the British Standards Institution, we benchmark our practices against recognised industry standards, ensuring we remain at the forefront of best practice in our sector.
